Our annual cut-a-thon, Kutting for Kids, has been defunct for five years but it is returning on Sunday, June 25th, from noon to 4:00 pm.
It will be held aboard our museum ship the USS ORLECK (DD 886) and will be a fundraiser for the ship. Due to the limited space on the ship potential hair donors must book an appointment on Eventbrite.com. The minimum length for donations is six inches of healthy hair. There are 104 appointments available.
Our goal is to raise $20 thousand to be used for restoration of living spaces so that youth groups can make overnight stays onboard. Hair donors will be asked to raise at least $200 in personal sponsorships with the remainder of the goal coming from corporate sponsorships.
All ponytails will be donated to Locks of Love.
There will be nice gift baskets for the persons (both child and adult) who donate the longest ponytail and raise the most money.
Tours of the ship will be available for donors and their families.
Those who would like to support the event but not donate hair can go to www.jaxnavalmuseum.org to donate on-line. There is a “Donate” button in the header bar. At the bottom of the form is an “Additional Comments” box. Please enter “Kutting for Kids” there. Any donation will be appreciated.
