SUMMARY:David Porter Maps the Planet at Southlight Gallery
DESCRIPTION:This summer Southlight Gallery will be showcasing artist\, David Porter and his collection of photographs from around the globe. Opening for July Art Walk the first Wednesday of the month! \nBorn just north of Boston\, David Porter earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 1964. He worked in and around Boston\, including at WGBH-TV\, in publishing\, printing\, and advertising. In 1973\, Porter moved to Florida\, where he began teaching in the Graphic Design and Photography programs at the University of North Florida. \nHis current collection of photographs were created through his love of travel across the globe\, including: the United States\, Mexico\, and a great deal of South America. He has also traveled within Europe and Asia\, most notably\, Bali Nepal in India\, a destination he enthusiastically recommends others to visit.

DESCRIPTION:This May\, Southlight will be welcoming our next Guest Artist\, Edmund Troy\, a graduate of the University of North Florida and Museum Educator at MOCA Jax. Recently\, Troy has been developing his personal artistic style that features vibrant and playful manifestations of the figure.\nWorking in Acrylic and Watercolor\, Troy builds glazes of color over detailed drawings. The figure serves as his primary subject; through exaggeration and repetition\, he blends the surreal with the unsettling. By exploring inwardness and the tension between vulnerability and confrontation\, Troy uses the body as\, “a site of excavation”.
